Wanting to know about what is “hot” for your home this winter well take a moment and hear from Tia’s interior design expert Jenny Turnbull. Jenny is proprietor and chief buyer for ‘Casual and Country’ in Ferrymead, Christchurch.

So Jenny, what are the colours coming through this season?

isola and pouf.jpgGreen is showing strongly in furnishing fabrics, a more subtle shade than the acid lime we have seen a lot of. The new shades of green make us think of the colours of the New Zealand bush in sunlight and in shade. Turquoise and green together feature strongly in many furnishing fabrics.

Red and Pink are hot colours in winter for accessories, they team well with chocolate, white and neutral basics.

What are the have to have accessories?

Anything Pacifica or with a New Zealand theme, ceramic wall plaques, platters, cushions with flax and koru prints, even fabric hand-printed with flax motifs.

Is there a particular “look” that is happening right now?

In the bedroom, we are seeing quilted comforters, in cotton prints for children, and in velvet and linen for a sophisticated adult’s nest.

For your dining table or hall table, we have felt table runners and placemats with cut-out designs.

Are the lines smooth or fanciful ?

At Casual and Country our emphasis is always on clean lines and good design, especially for major furniture items. Accessories can have a quirky or whimsical touch, as we can change these more often than our furniture.

What is new for the living room?

Oversized lounge pieces like the 1 ˝ seater chair, perfect for reading or snuggling in to watch TV with your lover! Extension Dining Tables for winter entertaining. Morrocan leather poufs, square cubes, and ottomans, to double as extra seating or a footstool.
